Riding Boats in Bangkok

An interesting way of getting to places when visiting Bangkok is through boats. The city of Bangkok is also known as the Venice of the East due to its numerous canals, which can be used for traveling from one place to another. Like the people Venice, residents of Bangkok have used these canals for centuries as a means of transportation to some parts of the city until roads, bridges and land transportation took. Nowadays, not all these canals are functional. Some of these canals have been paved to make room for streets while other have become sewers. If you want to experience the old Bangkok canal side life, you might want to engage the services of a tour guide before you embarked in your trip. Note that like most parts of Bangkok, the canals can be very tricky to navigate.

Although most boat operators know their way around the canals, it would still be advisable to get your own tour guide when embarking on this trip since there are many stops along the way, which you may want to take. Boat operators usually carry more than one guest in their boats and not all guest would want to drop off on some spots so if you want to really enjoy yourself and drop off at every interesting spots along the way it would be best to hire your own guide. Remember that most boat operators have other concerns other than showing you around. Most of them will not accompany guest who would want to inspect temples and historical spots along the way.
